FF Naples aka Naples (or Noodles to the kennel hand who fed him Chinese noodles from chopsticks after his races), red, DOB 10/14/19, 74lbs, 127 official races. Naples is a confident boy with a big personality that loves people, food and never-ending butt scratches. When you talk to him, he looks at you intently and you’ll be convinced he understands every word you’re saying. Naples has figured out living in a home very quickly – everything from a full flight of stairs, to “outside only” for going to the bathroom (zero accidents), to dog beds, to emptying the toy box, to sharing toys with no sign of aggression. Despite being very food-driven, he has only put his paws on the counter once and corrected easily. Naples would be an ideal dog for a young family with children (though he could knock a toddler over with his energy and his wagging tail) or for active adopters of any age who enjoy walking or hiking. He’s currently living with a laid-back male greyhound & a high energy female greyhound, but he may have the confidence to be an only dog with the right adopters since he’s very “people focused.” His foster mom is working on leash manners so he’ll walk beside her without pulling. Aside from that, this boy is all ready to find his happily ever after.

Update 4/22/24: In his first 4 weeks in foster care, Naples has learned:

  • “wait” to exit his crate, exit the house & during walks,
  • “out of the kitchen” while his meals are being prepared,
  • “go lay down” when people are eating or when he wakes up too early in the morning,
  • “kennel up” at meal/crate time & to jump into a vehicle.

He has no sleep startle and has shown no signs of food, toy or space aggression. He’s fine with getting his nails dremeled, his ears cleaned & his teeth brushed. He loves affection but doesn’t jump on people.

Naples is fearful of other-breed dogs (regardless of their size) approaching during a walk, which is surprising for an otherwise confident dog. His reaction to other breeds has improved, but training will be ongoing until he learns that those “scary, barky strange-looking dogs” won’t eat him and his people will always have his back. Naples interacts well with other greyhounds, both in a home and during group walks. With some additional alone training, he would be fine living as a solo dog where he gets all the human attention.

A note from Naples: Dear Future Adopters, Like Goldilocks, I’ve tried all of the dog beds in my foster home, and like Goldilocks, I’ve found the one that’s just right. I’m not a big fan of flat orthopedic beds. A bed with bolsters is okay. But what I really love is a “ball bed” like a slumber ball that I can snuggle into. If it’s not too much to ask, could I have one of those in my forever bedroom, please and thank you? Love, Naples
