Max – DOB 11/20/22, 73#, never raced.
From Max’s foster dad:
Max is a sweet 3-year-old former Australian racing greyhound. His personality is really starting to show and he’s very smart. He learned how to go up and down stairs after only a few guided attempts. He has learned that he can skip the stairs outside from the deck with one jump when he wants to chase after a bird or a rogue squirrel that ventures into the yard.
Max sleeps through the night in the bedroom on his pillow and is starting to enjoy being covered with another blanket. He is very attentive and has figured out that, if his foster dad turns off his C-Pap machine, that means he’s getting up and he’s next to him in a flash. Yet he can easily be encouraged to go back to bed when it’s “not time to get up yet.”
Max has learned to live with and enjoy being around the family’s little yippy dog Pip! Pip loves having Max around because Max likes to do his two-minute sprints around the yard and she tries to keep up with him, happily barking and running behind him.
Max gets excited for his walks with his “brother” Jet, another black Australian greyhound, and “sister” Pip. He walks well on a leash with both dogs and is happy to walk side by side, but mostly follows behind to find the good pee spots. He does love to check his “Pee Mail” from other dogs and will return the favor of leaving a reply. He is always curious about other dogs passing by on his walks but does not show anything more than childlike excitement and can be coaxed back to the walk with a little tug on his leash.
Max is loving & affectionate. He will get up if he hears movement inside or outside the house and loves to follow the humans when they go to the kitchen or upstairs or just lean up against them as they pet him. He allows the whole family to get down on the floor next to him and pet him, give him kisses and even put some paw butter on his pads. He has tried to snuggle up to Jet, but Jet is a bit of a loner though Pip will share a bed with him. This desire for human and doggie friendship and closeness is something Max is looking for in a forever home.
Max needs a cat-free home with a fenced yard, both to burn off energy and because, despite loving to take walks, he’s reluctant to poop while on-leash. If you’re searching for a new BFF and think Max might be a good fit, he’s ready & waiting to go!
