Bugsy Brown aka Bugsy, black male, 80lbs, 74 races

DOB 2/28/18

Bugsy is a retired racer that did not retire to a foster couch; he retired to a kennel and had time to be busy and create things to do. Now that he is in a foster home, he has been fabulous. He has learned every direction we have given him over time and with consistent direction. He doesn’t mind a nap and is fantastic for our work-from-home jobs. He has a prey drive but is learning to redirect his attention with increasing success. More than anything, he wants a family who will take a few minutes a few times a day to let him play and will keep his brain active with even simple training. He could be happy as an only dog or could share a home with a female greyhound. If he gets a direction right, he’s as happy as we are and he looks forward to doing it right the next time.

December Update from Bugsy’s foster mom:
It is hard to imagine he has not been snapped up for adoption. Bugsy is a wonderful greyhound who is looking for an adopter who wants a companion. He’s not velcro but enjoys a cuddle. He’s not a sofa spud but is good at relaxing in a bed. He’s only high energy for a few minutes outside with his ball or after an especially interesting walk where his brain gets fired up. He loves cuddles and behaves his very best with consistent directions that he can follow to earn a “good boy” or treat reward. He sleeps well, eats slowly, and leash-walks with manners, loves teeth brushing, is good in a crate when the humans are out and is good in a crate in the same room or in sight of humans when they are home. Even better, he’s good out of a crate when humans step out for a short time and good out of a crate even when in a separate room when humans are home.
Greyhound people, this is a fabulous dog. If you have been without a greyhound for a while and are ready to bring one back into your home or have experience with dogs and are interested in learning about greyhounds, please contact Greyhound Pet Adoptions of Delaware. We’d love to arrange a meet and greet. Fill out an application and get the process started so that you and Bugsy Brown will be closer to enjoying your lives together.
Note: Bugsy is leash-walked. We have a small area of fenced-in yard where he can play with his ball, but he enjoys playing on the porch or in the house with equal gusto. He only plays for short bursts of a few minutes. Don’t worry that you may not have a large yard. He’s not really interested in that. He had that as a pro racer and as a kennel dog in NZ. He’s over it and wants to spend his time with people and maybe a sweet, a little bit sassy, girl greyhound.
Note part 2: Since Bugsy has been here, our Mr. Grumpy, aka Levi (Talent Scout), has become even more loving, less grumpy, and less snapish. Lexi (Sweet Dreams), who just goes along with whatever, has started to instigate play and show a more confident personality. That’s the special gift of Bugsy Brown, with gentle prompting from the humans. Let’s get the adoption party on the calendar for the Magnificent Bugsy Brown.
Note part 3: In case you’re wondering why Bugsy is still available: There is nothing wrong with Bugsy. He’s fabulous. We are a fostering family. We assess, prepare, and get the fosters as ready as we can for adoption. We love every one of them and are sad after they move on while also being happy that they are in a forever home. But soon enough, another greyhound is ready for fostering and we open our home to the hilarity once again.
